GIA Publications, Inc. is seeking a Technology Assistant. This hybrid position (with occasional onsite work at our Chicagoland offices in Bedford Park and Oak Park, Illinois) is hands-on operational role, responsible for assisting with the daily health of GIA's technology environment and providing responsive technical support to both customers (through GIA’s in-house Customer Service team) and internal staff. This position works closely with GIA’s Technology Strategist and serves as a critical first line of support - keeping systems running, resolving issues efficiently, maintaining data quality, and contributing practical insight to ongoing improvement efforts.
If you have curiosity and willingness to learn; a calm, patient approach to support work; are collaborative by nature and proactive in finding answers and asking deeper questions, you are likely to be successful in this role!
This is a great opportunity for a technically capable, organized individual who enjoys variety in their work - one day resolving a customer-facing website issue, the next cleaning up a database table or helping spec out a new feature.
Required Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in a technical support, IT operations, or web/systems administration role.
- Solid working knowledge of web technologies (HTML/CSS fundamentals, CMS platforms, browser-based troubleshooting).
- Comfort working with databases - ability to read and write basic SQL queries (SELECT, UPDATE, basic JOINs).
- Experience with a helpdesk or ticketing system (Zendesk, Freshdesk, Jira, Asana, or similar).
- Strong written communication skills - able to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
- Highly organized with good attention to detail; able to manage multiple open issues simultaneously.
- Self-directed and reliable; able to work through routine tasks without close supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with MySQL or similar relational databases.
- Experience with e-commerce platforms or CMS environments.
- Exposure to scripting or automation (Python, Bash, or similar) for handling repetitive tasks.
- Basic understanding of web hosting, DNS, and server environments.
- Experience working in a small IT team or in a multi-hat technical role.
- Interest in or familiarity with Sacred Music, Music Education, Performance Choral, publishing, or ministry, school or nonprofit sectors.
Responsibilities:
- System Monitoring & Maintenance.
- Customer and Internal User Technical Support.
- Data Cleanup & Maintenance.
- Feature & Improvement Collaboration.
To apply, please submit your resume and a non-AI-generated cover letter.
GIA is a great place to work! After a 90-Day introductory period, benefits for full-time employees include:
- Employer-subsidized Medical Insurance and Prescription coverage, with Dental and Vision insurance options.
