Graphic and Web Designer

About the Job
GIA Publications, Inc. is seeking a Graphic and Web Designer with a strong background in user interface and experience. A successful candidate for this position has a strong passion for design, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate concepts into compelling visuals. This hybrid role, with regular in-person work in Bedford Park, Illinois and/or Oak Park, Illinois will primarily focus on digital/web design but will also require knowledge of traditional print design and concepts.  

This individual reports to GIA's Director of Marketing and works closely with other members of the marketing, web, and editorial teams. They will collaborate with our team to modernize and improve our website, informational landing pages, apps, and internal tools. They will create a variety of print and digital assets for web, marketing, and sales efforts, exhibit signage, and more. This role requires innovative thinking, technical proficiency, and the ability to deliver high-quality designs under tight deadlines. This position requires an autonomous professional who is self-driven to meet targets and works independently to manage their own workload.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or similar, or equivalent experience (2+ years).
  • 5+ years of experience (academic and/or professional) with design software, including but not limited to Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience (academic and/or professional) with UI/UX frameworking tools, including but not limited to, Figma, Adobe XD, PenPot, Framer, etc.
  • Basic understanding of web development concepts and basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JS languages.
  • Basic familiarity with print production terminology and requirements.
  • Ability to develop user-friendly, responsive, and modern website layouts.
  • Strong graphic design and layout skills.
  • Creativity and flexibility.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Deadline-oriented with excellent time-management and communication skills.
  • The ability to handle feedback and constructive criticism.
  • The ability to work productively remotely and as part of an in-person team.

Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of WordPress and content management systems.
  • Prior experience building wireframes and mapping potential website and user flows.
  • Prior experience designing and developing e-commerce websites.
  • Familiarity with other digital marketing tools and platforms (email, social media, advertising).
  • Familiarity with music, particularly in schools or churches, is a plus.
